One of the least discussed downsides of the iPod (and yes there are some) is its battery life, which dwindles from ten or eleven hours on purchase to as little as two hours after about a year of use. There’s no way to replace the battery either, though Apple will cut you a break of $50 on a new one. Taking matters into his own hands, some enterprising hacker has built an external battery pack for his iPod that runs on double A batteries. The result is a somewhat ungainly looking battery pack that detracts from one of the main upsides of the iPod, its excellent design.
