After being purchased by the photo-hosting site Shutterfly for $23.8m last month, Kodak Gallery, the photo-hosting service of one-time giant Kodak, will be taken offline for good, July 2. Users of the service were notified today by email, along with a request to please notify Kodak no later than May 28 if they wish to have their photos migrated over to Shutterfly's servers.
Those uninterested in switching to Shutterfly have the option to opt out, which can be done on the page Kodak has set up with a message from the general manager and information regarding the migration/transition.
News of Kodak Gallery's closure comes as yet further evidence of the company's bleak outlook; Kodak filed for bankruptcy in January, and Shutterfly was uncontested in its purchase last month. My, how the mighty have fallen. [TheVerge - Image via rachelcreative/Flickr]
