‘Fate of the Republic’ Will (Probably?) Be Out Before Decade’s End

If Arcanauts has its way, it won't be too long of a wait for 'Fate of the Old Republic'...but you're gonna do some waiting regardless.

During the Game Awards, we learned the dead speak, and they said: “Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.

The reveal of the spiritual successor to BioWare and Obsidian’s Knights of the Old Republic games was a big shock, even to people aware of online rumors earlier in the week. Fans have a lot of questions, one of which is: “when’s it coming out?” According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the answer to that is quite a while, as he guessed that it’d come out by 2030, and even that is “optimistic.” At worse, he said it could be a long enough wait that it might wind up on the PlayStation 7.

Why’d he peg it to 2030? Developer Arcanauts Studios was founded earlier in 2025, which Schreier notes was mentioned in Lucasfilm’s press release for Fate. Prior to this, Arcanaut’s CEO/director Casey Hudson was leading Humanoid Origin, a studio working on its own original game before it lost funding and was shut down near the end of 2024. So with Arcanauts only having a few months under its feet, and actively hiring, it might be another year or two before the Fate of the Old Republic is seen again, much less in players’ hands.

In response to Schreier’s speculation, Hudson told players to “not worry,” saying Fate “will be out before [2030]. I’m not getting any younger!” That’s a big, albeit vague claim to make, but we’ll just have to wait and see when this game comes out and whether it sticks to whatever its first release date is. Even if it doesn’t come pre-2030, it’s not like we aren’t already used to waiting years for big games revealed at events like the Game Awards, Star Wars or otherwise.
