It's about time Google Doodles doodled the doodle king. Bob Ross, whose palette and afro invaded our living rooms for decades of insta-nature art adventures, graces the search giant's home page today.

Ross, for those not familiar, combined a soothing tone, steady hand, and incongruous haircut worked spent decades working his canvas magic on public television. Like all true patriots, he passed away on the fourth of July in 1995; today would have been his 80th birthday. He couldn't have asked for a more appropriate homage. [Google]

Bob Ross's show is one of the most soothing shows on TV. It is a half-hour of pure mellow.

The cool part of the show is when he puts a large splotch of paint on the canvas, and you think "You've screwed up now, Bob." Then he turns the splotch into a mountain.
