First DVD+R DL Review: Might Want To Hold Off For a Bit

AnandTech has the first real-world review that I’ve seen of a DVD+R DL burner, the double-layered DVD technology that allows you to burn DVDs at home with the same amount of storage as a commercially pressed DVD (twice as much, that is, if you didn’t figure that out from the ‘dual’ part). The Sony DRU-700A drive they tested performed great on every test but one: burning DVD+R DL media. While they were table to burn two DVD+R discs in under 15 minutes, a single DVD+R DL took around 45. On the upside, all the tested burning software used seemed to be able to work with the DRU-700A just fine, but unless you need dual-layer DVDs right now, it might be better to wait for a few more units to hit the streets.
