First quad-band GSM phone

By

Reading time 1 minute

NEC returns to the American cellphone market with their new 515 High Definition Mobile handset, which is the world’s first quad-band GSM phone. The 515 also has a large 64,000 color display and dual-processors for playing games on the phone.

Curiously, at the bottom of the press release for the 515 there’s a note that reads, “HDM (High Definition Mobile) is not meant to imply compliance with any HDTV (High Definition Television) or similar high definition standards.” This normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but since NEC actually does have a phone coming out in Japan that receives digital television broadcasts, how about just calling the 515 HDM something else and saving everyone a lot of confusion?
