Reader Eric Casadei writes in regarding Saturday’s post about Toshiba’s new high-definition DVD standard:
I just read your story on Toshiba’s new Advanced Optical Disc. I thought you might want to write a story linking to following sites: http://www.hddvd.org/ is a site with the latest information on the competing HD-DVD formats, and http://www.dvdsite.org/ is a consumer campaign for choosing a single HD-DVD format. I have nothing to do with either site, I just hope to avoid the type of confusion caused by the competing recordable DVD formats. The last thing I want to do is have to buy a Blu-Ray device to play Sony Pictures films in hi-def, and a separate HD DVD-9 player for Warner Brothers movies, etc.
I’m glad someone is doing something about this, since competing formats will be a disaster for manufacturers, the film studios, and consumers.
