The TV series will be set in Crystal Lake “as new secrets about [Jason’s] wacky family are revealed.” Oh, those wacky Voorhees.

I know when I think about the machete-wielding Jason Voorhees, I think wacky hijinks. Deadline is reporting that the Friday the 13th franchise is being prepped for an HOUR-LONG drama. The original director, Sean Cunningham, is on as executive producer, and Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have been hired to write the storyline.

This series will re-imagine Jason in multiple time periods, and no, we don’t know what that means either. Jason flashbacks maybe?

Here’s what Deadline knows: “The series is contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed.”

Oh dear, this could be great. or just straight-up terrible. The new rush of amazing horror shows (Hannibal) have really set the bar pretty high for other horror franchises. And we’re not sure Jason can compete in that arena, but maybe we will be entertained weekly by watching pretty people get mutilated by various members of the Voorhees clan.
