Although the Gateway NX100X Ultraportable is heavier than the 2.2lb Fujitsu Lifebook 2010, its 3.15lb body is still light enough to take around with you everywhere. And at a price of $1399, it's cheaper than comparable laptops like the Thinkpad X60 as well.
The Gateway comes with a Core Solo U1400, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive and an external DVD burner. It's got a 12-inch screen, 6-cell battery (compared to 3 or 4-cell batteries competitors have), Firewire 400, USB 2.0, WiFi, Bluetooth, 6-in-1 media card reader, and Gigabit Ethernet—all of which may not even been in laptops that aren't ultraportables!
Not only are the features great, Digital Trends also liked the keyboard and was able to get up to 140 wpm on it, faster than any other notebook they've reviewed. The reviewers opted for the 3-cell battery instead of the 6-cell, and only managed to squeeze 1 hour and 37 minutes out of the battery. Pretty damn low. Even at twice that in the 6-cell battery, it would be pretty low for a notebook these days. But the other features like the glossy screen, heat management, and exceptional build quality made up for the low battery life.
