George R.R. Martin isn't writing for seasons five or six of Game of Thrones — but that doesn't mean we won't see more stuff from him on HBO. In a new interview, Martin reveals he's developing a new show called Captain Cosmos. But he also revealed that a major twist could be coming in the Song of Ice and Fire books.

First, that twist. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Martin revealed that he's considering a shocking development — and this twist will not happen on the TV show:

In one intriguing new wrinkle, Martin says he just came up with a big, revealing twist on a long-time character that he never previously considered. “This is going to drive your readers crazy,” he teases, “but I love it. I’m still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It’s a great twist. It’s easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations. Otherwise, it’s just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved… it all makes sense. But it’s nothing I’ve ever thought of before. And it’s nothing they can do in the show, because the show has already—on this particular character—made a couple decisions that will preclude it, where in my case I have not made those decisions.”

He also told the magazine that he regrets "not plowing ahead into Winds after finishing 2011’s A Dance with Dragons."

Meanwhile, Martin's brand-new HBO show is about a science fiction writer in the 1940s. Based on the one-sentence description below, we're already planning retro space-age themed Captain Cosmos viewing parties — because how awesome does this sound?

We can exclusively reveal that the author is developing a new series at HBO called Captain Cosmos. The pitch: “At the dawn of the age of TV in 1949, a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell.” The pilot is being written by Michael Cassutt (Z Nation).

I'm the first person to stand up and say George RR Martin is not your bitch....but *sigh*. it gets harder and harder to stand up for him.

I've actually worked with an artist in the past who consistently would draw one comic and then announce how amazing it was (which wasn't untrue) and then announce his next comic title vs talk about when he was going to do issue 2 of the first comic he was touting about earlier. In the end he had 4 comics going at once and to date has yet to get far on any of them. (i think the first is up to issue 2, the second is on issue 1, the third is on a preview issue and the 4th seems to be mostly talk). It's been 5 years. There's a reason i don't work with him anymore.

Focus people, focus.
