Google Buzz Index: QWERTY Smartphone Messagers and Ultralight Hybrids

So I thought I’d try to get all sciencey on you, here, and did some informal Google mining to see what people are talking about. I made these first two graphs in Excel all by myself!

The first is a comparison of keyboarded messaging tools: the Treo 600, the RIM Blackberry (all models), and the upcoming Motorola MPx (for spice). The listing on the left (horizontal, not the vertical label) is my Google search string, just so you can check the search terms yourself if you want. As I said, this isn’t an exact science, but I tried my best to weed out false positives. The Treo wins the buzz index this round, but the MPx has a strong start for something that won’t even be out until the fall.

The second chart compares what I’m calling ‘Ultralight Hybrids,’ the set of devices that aren’t quite PDAs but aren’t quite notebook computers, either. The OQO wins the buzz index by a large margin. Looks like Vulcan needs to pump up the FlipStart marketing budget.

Feel free to question any of these numbers quietly to yourself.
