Govee’s Holiday Projector Beams Spooky Ghosts (or Santa) Onto Your Home

The Holiday Pattern Projector Light uses dual lighting for maximum holiday effects.

October is here, and with it comes new holiday lights. But you don’t necessarily need to Clark Griswold your way up a ladder if you get one of those yard light projectors, like the $150 Holiday Pattern Projector Light that Govee just released last week.

The Holiday Pattern Projector sounds kind of like the company took its existing Star Light Projector, with its textured glass lens, and slapped on a slide projector. The textured glass side creates a bed of wispy, glowy lighting effects that the projector half then beams an image into. The company includes 16 interchangeable “discs” with themed graphics on them—and they run the gamut from an Easter Bunny to Santa Claus to what I’m pretty sure is supposed to be Ghostface from the Scream movies. There are also other, non-holiday images, like one of a spiral galaxy.

The Holiday Pattern Projector is similar to the Outdoor Decoration Projector Light that Govee released last year, which also beams images onto your wall. The new device has a key upgrade, though: its projector lens has a built-in focus ring, so you can sharpen the image to fit where you place it. That makes it a lot more flexible; where the older model needed to be 9.8 feet away from the wall it’s projecting onto for a crisp image, you can place the new one between 0 and 32 feet away, depending on how much area you want to cover. It can coat up to 1,500 square feet, or more than double the 679 feet of its predecessor.

Like so many Govee lights in recent years, the Holiday Pattern Projector is Matter-compatible, meaning you should be able to connect it to and control it from any old smart home system. Apart from Govee’s own offerings, there aren’t really any Matter-compatible smart outdoor light projection gadgets like this—the next closest thing would be something like Nanoleaf’s Smart Holiday String Lights. But you’ll need the Govee app to use and manage lighting effects. In a specs sheet the company shared with me, the company says you’ll be able to control color, brightness, and motion speed using the app, and that you’ll be able to connect it to other Govee lights via Bluetooth “to create stunning synchronized light shows.”

Finally, Govee says the Holiday Pattern Projector can operate in temperatures between -4 degrees Fahrenheit and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s also IP67-rated, meaning it’s dustproof and should survive being immersed in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes.

The Govee Holiday Pattern Projector Light is available now.
