Here's the New Fastest Wireless Router You Can Buy For Your House

Buffalo just put a new Wi-Fi router on store shelves, and it's so fast you can't really use it with anything. But on paper it is so great and fast.

The AirStation WZR-D1800H (sexy!) router uses the brand new 802.11ac spec, which is a big technical step beyond 802.11n, the current obscurely named wireless champion stuck at a measly max 300 megabits per second. 802.11ac uses more wireless streams stretched across more wireless spectrum, and can push up to 1.3 gigabits per second, Buffalo claims! This, of course, is a paper speed that won't actually be matched IRL.

But for now, the thing is absolutely pointless, because nothing you own is 802.11ac compatible—for now. It will be someday, probably, so if you want to future proof your house, this might be a good idea! And at $180, it'd be a decent investment. [Buffalo via Engadget]
