Highlights from the Apple’s iTunes Conference Call

By

Reading time 1 minute

While the first half of the Apple iTunes Conference Call transcript is mostly Steve Jobs explaining all the new features available in iTunes 4.5, there are a few tidbits in the Q&A sessions with the reporters, such as the fact that the iPod is approaching 50 percent market share in MP3 players; HP’s iPod should be shipping this summer; 40 to 50 percent of all songs sold on iTMS are sold as albums; Apple is waiting on one of the dedicated media receivers to get popular before they officially support it (allowing the receiver to play DRM-locked iTunes files); the next iPod will make toast, possible refrigerating its own jam; the iTunes Music Store turned a small profit last quarter; no plans for OGG Vorbis because no one has been asking about it (surprise!).
