First there was Voltron Girl, then there was this fantastic movie concept art, now Hollywood is primed and ready to make the 80s cartoon into a movie, and they’re battling over the rights to the cat robot!

According to Vulture a bidding war is taking place over the rights to the giant feline mecha between Ryan Kavanaugh’s (The Crow reboot) Relativity Media and a few other nameless production studios. And reportedly, producer Charles Roven and Richard Suckle have been hashing out a script with screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. With the buzz building around the rebooted Nickelodeon Voltron cartoon (Voltron Force), set to premiere this May, Hollywood is hungry for the next Transformers-style blockbuster.

Will the pieces actually come together into an awesome cat robot this time? It remains to be seen, but the article claims we could be seeing a Voltron movie by 2013 or 2014.
