This isn’t exactly new, but Scientific American has a good piece on Shazam, a new service in the UK which identifies songs, and how it works. Anyone with a cellphone can call up Shazam, point the phone at the music they want identified for at least fifteen seconds, and then a few minutes later the company sends back a text message with the name of the song and the artist who recorded it. The article also has sopme good news for anyone in the US trying to name that tune: Shazam’s service should be available here within the next year or two.
