Well, they thought it would never happen, but it has: hybrid vehicles survived intact on the mean streets of New York and San Francisco. Designed as a pilot program, these hybrid vehicles were introduced as taxis in two of the roughest driving towns in the U.S. (offer void in Mumbai and Rome).
Apparently the hybrids, Ford Escapes, in both cities survived quite a drubbing and hit the 100,000 mile mark with nary a problem. The drivers saved $31 on fuel per each 300-mile shift.
