i-Mate PDA2: Son of Jam (Update: No!)

Reading time 1 minute

It looks like we can expect the i-mate PDA2 to start appearing around the world relatively soon, as the successor to the popular i-mate Jam is being listed with a May 20th release date in Italy. The phone will run Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, powered by a 520MHz Xscale, sport built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a bunch of memory (64MB ROM/128MB RAM, SD cards). The unit doesn’t have a keyboard, following in Jam tradition, instead dominated by a 3.5-inch, 240 by 320 pixel touchscreen.

Of course, what made the Jam so popular, more than anything, was its size. It was one of the first Windows Mobile smartphones that was truly pocketable. If the PDA2 can continue that direction, it should be a worthy upgrade. (Thanks, cdjvin!)

Update: Greg Marsh used “logic” to determine that the PDA2 really couldn’t be as small as the Jam, so it’s not really fair to call it the ‘Son of Jam.’ Greg Marsh needs to shut his big fat mouth.

Also, Expansys lists this as “very similar to the O2 XDA II,” so there you go.
