I really want the Pixels movie to be good but I know it won't be

I didn't know that this movie existed until today: Apparently there's an upcoming full feature film based on Pixels, the short by Patrick Jean that went viral on 2010 (below.) Being a fan of all things 8-bit, I got really excited when I saw these new teaser posters and the synopsis:

Former 1980's Video Game Champions are called on by the President of the United States to defend the World against an invading army of aliens… who have watched feeds of old arcade games and mistaken them for an act of aggression, so the aliens take on the forms of some of our most beloved arcade icons to wreck havoc on the Earth.

Doesn't get any better than that, right? RIGHT?

Wait. Wait. WAIT. I just saw the movie is directed by Chris Columbus—of Mrs. Doubtfire fame—with Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Peter Dinklage (who, as incredibly talented as he is, I'm sure he wouldn't be able to save whatever this is going to be.) This movie would have probably been awesome directed by James Gunn, starring Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, and Peter Dinklage.
