IBM Thinkpad T42p Preview

Curse IBM and its whole punch-card nibbling family; How am I supposed to buy a new Macintosh laptop in good conscience when they keep putting out these badass Thinkpads? I had a whole plan—PC for gaming and daily use, where speed is the primary concern, and Mac for mobile and ‘life management,’ where I can take advantage of OSX’s killer suite of integrated software. But then IBM lets Trusted Reviews play around with a pre-production Thinkpad T42p, and now I’m all twitterpated, dreaming of computing on a 1.8GHz Pentium M-powered laptop with an ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 graphics chip, plus 802.11b/g/a WiFi connections and one of those shimmering 1,600 x 1,200 15-inch screens that IBM provides (which seemed too big to me at first, too, until I saw one. It’s not too big, it’s perfect. Why does Apple saddle its laptops with such lackluster screens?). Since it’s pre-production there aren’t any official benchmarks, but it’s going to be a beautiful machine, just like the T41 before it.
