Laptops have been getting both bigger and smaller over the past couple of years. There are tons of people who need to have the smallest and lightest laptop possible, but there’s been this counter-trend of what are being called “desknotes”: larger, heavier laptops that have the power of a desktop but that you’d never actually want to haul around with you on a business trip. IBM’s new G-series line of ThinkPads falls squarely into this latter category. They weigh 7.5 pounds, have Pentium 4 processors, 15-inch screens, and, most anachronistically, floppy disk drives. Oh, and they’re just about the ugliest new laptops we’ve seen in years.
