Despite the fact that it's really not that different from the chores they despise, kids still love building stuff. Be it a spaceship made from Legos, or a castle built with wooden blocks. So maybe Bandai's on to something with its Sprükits sets that have kids assembling their own fully-articulated action figures without the need for glue or paint.
The $20 figures—including well-known characters like Batman and Superman—come with somewhere around 30 individual pieces still attached to their plastic sprue frames (hence the name) that all snap together via an included instruction manual—so they're hopefully hard to screw up. Snapping pieces out of a frame can be a bit time consuming and annoying, but anyone who's ever dumped the contents of an Ikea box on the floor and then struggled to build a shelf will certainly see the merits of this approach.
