New imbedded road studs are on the way, but they’ll do a lot more than just make noise when you travel over the lines. The newest, from a British company known as Astucia, conceal a small camera that can take pictures of license plates accurately up to 150mph. While they won’t be in the road anytime soon, the cameras could be part of a fuller package of road studs that flash warning signals when cars travel too fast, pedestrians start to cross the road, or upcoming traffic signals begin to turn red.
