Big summer crossover season is in full swing, as DC and Marvel both release slew of Flashpoint and Fear Itself tie-in books. Also, Richard K. Morgan returns to comics, and the purple-pantsed goliath puts on a familiar face.
First Issues
There's a new raft on Flashpoint tie-ins this week: Citizen Cold (one of Flash's rogues is Central City's biggest hero), Deathstroke And The Curse Of The Ravager (Slade Wilson as salty pirate), Flashpoint: Emperor Aquaman (a new haircut and a new evil disposition), and Jeff Lemire's Frankenstein And The Creatures Of The Unknown (monsters giving Nazis the what-for).
DC's also releasing Green Lantern movie tie-in comics focusing on Kilowog and Tomar-Re.
As for Marvel's Fear Itself spin-offs, we have Deadpool and Fearsome Four. Paul Jenkins writes Ka-Zar, a new Ghost Rider series kicks off with .1 issue, and Marvel MAX's Supreme Power is back to boot.
For gaming fans, there's the first issue of the video game tie-in title Star Wars: Old Republic - Lost Suns. Richard K. Morgan of the Takeshi Kovacs series also pens the comic adaptation Crysis (he did the script to Crysis 2).
And for vamp fans there's Bram Stoker's Death Ship (which is about Dracula's maritime journey to England) and Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy's Vertigo miniseries American Vampire: Survival Of The Fittest.
Other Releases
There are new issues of The Unwritten, Morning Glories, and Dave Sim's Glamourpuss. Also watch out for the final issue of Terry Moore's Echo.
PS: Dave Johnson's cover for Deadpool this week has the Hulk making the infamous trollface. Also, Johnson did that sweet retro Punisher MAX cover at top. Good hustle, Dave!
Graphic Novels
We're jazzed for the third volume of Jeff Lemire's manimal apocalypse series Sweet Tooth (Animal Armies). Side note: Lemire's acclaimed small-town Canada graphic novel Essex County is coming to the big screen under the name Super Zero! Doublegood hustle, Jeff!
Other worthwhile graphic novels on the stand include Mike Mignola's vampire hunter book Baltimore: The Plague Ships, a hardcover oversized Volume 3 of The Boys, and a release of Batwoman: Elegy on trade paperback.
As usual, here's the list of everything being released to comic stores tomorrow, and you can find your nearest comic retailer here. Rock over Gotham, rock on Attilan! Gingold — stretch out the good times!
