Perhaps clashing with our apparently unabashed anti-LIFE sentiment, we present to you word of an inhaled form of insulin, due out within a year. The device would work by using dry powder insulin from a blister pack, released using an inhaler. The inhaled form offers a short-acting insulin boost but could easily reduce the number of injections normally required (for Type I diabetes) from the current average of six down to just one or two, daily. This technology has been on the horizon for some time now, but it’s nice to see it finally heading towards medical licensing and approval, as it will provide a much-needed alternative to the frequent injections that are the norm.
