Just in time for our impending economic meltdown, people are starting to talk about DepressionPunk replacing Steampunk. Indie retro band Gravemist says it’s been wrongly tagged with the “Steampunk” label, because it conjures obsolete musical styles mixed with newer technology. In fact, Gravemist is referencing music and fashions of the Depression era, when steam was already out of use as a power source, so you should call their music DepressionPunk instead. (The band also claims to have died in 1956, only to be resurrected 50 years later due to arcane science.) [Gravemist, via Nox Blog]
