Is Microsoft engaging in a little domain name squatting?

Speaking of Series 60, a quick visit to Series60.com reveals a website that has nothing to do with the new cellphone operating system, but rather a site dedicated to Microsoft Mobile Devices, including the Smartphone operating system which is a direct competitor to Series 60. A quick check of the WHOIS registry reveals that the domain name was registered in November of 2001 to the obviously fictional entity of “Organization, 12345 Main Street, Anytown, XX 12345, US.” Very interesting.

UPDATE: It was a tense couple of hours, but the mystery has been solved, sort of. Russell Beattie writes in with a link to a story in The Register about this way back in 2001. Looks like it’s the work of some anonymous prankster and that Microsoft has nothing to do with it.
