While fishing off the coast of Cape Town in South Africa, a pair of fisherman were treated to an unbelievable sight — a massive pod of dolphins containing as many as a thousand individuals.
As fisherman Robbie Ragless told Eyewitness News, “We just saw the frenzy on the horizon and didn’t know it was coming straight for us and caught ourselves right in the middle of it, which was quite cool.”
Cool, indeed. But it’s not unprecedented. Individual pods have been known to merge like this, temporarily forming superpods, in places where there’s a high abundance of food.
