Taking the warm, personal touch of humanity out of killing, the U.S. military is taking their unmanned flying drone programs to the next logical progression: making them kill. While current drones have occasionally engaged targets with a limited armament, these under-development vehicles can carry up to 4,500 pounds of ordinance. More giant remote-controlled death bringers than upcoming robotic overlords, the drones have a limited ability to make decisions, but the Pentagon desires more robust behavior, saying the “unmanned planes should be able to take off, fly and defend themselves as a group without a human telling them what to do.” Yeehaw!
