In a move that strikes Gizmodo as smacking of desperation, Kodak is suing Sony for patent infringement. The Rochester, N.Y., mainstay alleges that its Japanese competitor aped some key pieces of Kodak’s digital-camera technology. A Kodak spokesman tells Reuters that the companies have been discussing a licensing scheme for three years, but that talks recently broke down. Methinks that Sony finally smelled blood, given Kodak’s problems adapting to the post-film era, and decided to take its chances in court against a weakened foe. If Kodak wins, though, it’ll get a piece of every CyberShot sale on the planet. Them’s some high stakes.
