While certainly not the first time I’ve seen a product like this, Japanese manufacturer Logitec also appears to be jumping on the “use hard drives instead of flash, because flash is expensive” boat. Less than 0.4″ thick and 1.96″ wide and tall, Logitec’s LHD-PBM2GU2 has a 2.2GB capacity, and costs around 17,800 yen ($170 USD). Going by my “50 cents per gigabyte” philosophy of purchasing hard drives, though, it seems I’ll be waiting about 20 years before I can actually get something like this. One thing I do like about the unit is the universal USB 2.0 support — no special drivers are required on modern flavors of Windows or MacOS. By the way, Logitec is not the Japanese Logitech.
