Io9 2025 Spoiler

Man of Tomorrow

In a new Threads post, James Gunn denied a recent report from Deadline suggesting Adria Arjona, Ella Purnell, and Marisa Abela are screen testing for the role of Maxima in Man of Tomorrow.

This is not against Nexus – they’re sharing what Deadline reported – but Deadline’s reporting is shoddy & incorrect. I’ve always thought Deadline was pretty thorough in their journalism but that’s not the case here so I’m frankly disappointed. If someone would have run these names by us we would have said it’s bullshit. I’ve been friends with Adria a long time since I cast her in the Belko Experiment. I’m a fan of both Marisa and Ella but I’ve never met either of them. Crazy.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter published their own report, saying that Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten are candidates testing for the role.

Home Safety Hotline

THR reports Michael Matthews (Love and Monsters) is attached to direct a film adaptation of the analog horror puzzle video game Home Safety Hotline. Written for the screen by Nick Tassoni, the story follows “an unemployed loner who must take a job as a phone operator at a mysterious home security company, only to realize they specialize in protecting customers from horrific monsters that come out at night.”

The Scorpion

Deadline also reports Sonja O’Hara and Sebiye Behtiyar will star in The Scorpion, a horror/sci-fi film from director Zachary Allard following “a struggling young woman whose dream of launching her own clothing line has stalled. Desperate for money, she accepts a mysterious job at a cutting-edge cosmetics lab that claims to have eliminated animal testing in favor of willing human participants. As Kit becomes increasingly entangled in the lab’s bizarre experiments—involving perfumes, chemicals, and invasive procedures—her life begins to improve, even as disturbing physical and psychological changes begin to surface.”

Deluxe Ocean View

Deadline also reports Callan McAuliffe, Camryn Manheim, Henry Ian Cusick, Ray Campbell, and Ryan Powers will star in Deluxe Ocean View, a “psychological” horror film following “renowned exposé journalist Ethan Everett (McAuliffe), who arrives at a nearly empty luxury resort for a career-saving interview, unaware that the hotel itself may be a malevolent force exposing buried truths before destroying its guests.”

Exit 8

NEON has released a final trailer for Exit 8 ahead of its release this Friday.

Strawstalker

Newlywed content creators livestream a living scarecrow’s rampage through an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood in the trailer for Strawstalker.

The Draw

In the trailer for The Draw (via Bloody-Disgusting), a man who works at the “local avatar store, where customers can design their idealized real-life person” is chosen to participate in “a politically motivated game show in which contestants are hunted as a form of entertainment.”

Rooster Fighter

Finally, Adult Swim has released a clip from this week’s new episode of Rooster Fighter.
