You have to respect a man who, having grown tired of the staid state of modern aviation, tries to breathe a little life back by designing his own personal jet. The ‘Kelvin 40’ doesn’t fly, exactly, as designer Marc Newson isn’t an engineer, but just because it doesn’t fly doesn’t mean it couldn’t. Wind tunnel tests show the aluminum and carbon fiber jet could, as far as the airfoil surfaces are concered, stay up just fine, provided it had a working jet engine (and controls, and, you know, everything else). The culmination of a two year project for Fondation Cartier For Contemporary art, the Kelvin 40 is currently waiting in a special hanger at the Groniger Museum.
