The American Winner
Deadline reports Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad) and Tony Kotsur (CODA, Primate) have wrapped filming The American Winner, a “satirical horror” movie from Iranian writer-director Farbod Ardebili. Filmed in Los Angeles, the story concerns “a megalomaniacal tech billionaire (Borg) who manipulates markets from his residence while protecting the bizarre ‘being’ he’s accidentally impregnated and must feed to keep his progeny alive. The entire film takes place in the palatial bathroom of the Silicon Valley guru.” Ashby Gentry (Netflix’s My Life with the Walter Boys), Misha Osherovich (Freaky), Toks Olagundoye (Frasier), Lorena Gonzalez, and Shavvon Lin co-star.
Paranormal Activity 8
Deadline also reports Chase Yi (Mythic Quest) has joined the cast of Paranormal Activity 8 in a currently undisclosed role. Ian Tuason (Undertone) is currently attached to direct.
Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist/The Exorcist: Martyrs
A new listing on Mike Flanagan’s own Red Room Pictures website appears confirm his Exorcist film is officially titled The Exorcist: Martyrs.
They Follow
In conversation with Empire, David Robert Mitchell confirmed Disasterpeace will return to score the soundtrack to They Follow, the upcoming sequel to It Follows.
Resident Evil
Empire also has a new image of a zombie opposite Austin Abrams character in Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, whom he unfavorably compares to Frodo Baggins.
The concept here is that we’re following an idiot. Not that he’s stupid, but he’s not your typical game character, with no combat skills whatsoever and completely inept at survival. Bryan is very much an everyman who happens to be burdened with this kind of sacred mission that’s going to take him into the heart of everything. It’s kind of like Frodo going into Mordor.
It feels like one gigantic sequence. Things pop off about five minutes in, and it basically stays like that until the end. What I love about the games is that you move from set-piece to set-piece. Every location has a unique challenge. So again, I’m borrowing from the games directly in that rhythm, where you’re just running through a gauntlet.
The Devil’s Mouth
Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor descend into a heavily polluted freshwater cave system where they meet a mutated bull shark in the trailer for The Devil’s Mouth.
You’re Dead to Me
Elsewhere, Denise Richards appears opposite Henry Danger‘s Ella Anderson and F9: The Fast Saga’s Siena Agudong in the trailer for You’re Dead to Me, a new slasher about a group of high school seniors who decide to skip prom and party at a secluded cabana.
Twisted Metal
During his recent appearance at FAN EXPO Anaheim (via Screen Rant), Mark Hamill admitted he doesn’t “get” the appeal of Twisted Metal but is having a “great time” playing the Pope of New York.
They sent me this script and I started reading this thing. I go, ‘What IS this?’ Yeah, it’s twisted, but I just didn’t get it. So they sent me a link to watch the episodes, and I watched the episodes, and I went, ‘I still don’t get it.’
And now I’m in it, and what’s so wonderful is, even though I don’t get it, my character benefits from not being tethered to reality. I play an ex-cabbie, also an ex-crook, who now is the Pope of New York. You heard me right, P-O-P-E, Pope. I get the hat and everything. And I’m telling you, you put that hat on, it sort of changes you. And he’s nuts, totally nuts. So I’m having a great time.
Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz are so good; they’re so good together. Their chemistry is great, and I’m always delighted to work with actors I’ve never worked with before. It’s great fun. We’re going back there next week; I’ll be gone for two months. I won’t be here for the Fourth of July.
Rick and Morty
Finally, Rick and Morty get busted harvesting the sap of Ent-like treefolk in a clip from this Sunday’s new episode, “Mortgully: The Last Rickforest.”
