If you missed Masters of the Universe in theaters—and many did after a mixed critical reception—it’s arriving on Prime Video this week, where it may find new appreciation on the small screen. After all, that’s where He-Man and his pals have achieved their greatest fame, in the 1980s animated juggernaut that spawned multiple spin-offs and continuations, including the recent Netflix series.
Prime Video is also streaming the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie, so you can extend your trip to Eternia with a double feature that also doubles down on cheese.
However, if all you really care about is the 2026 aspiring blockbuster directed by Travis Knight, that’s fine too. It arrives on Prime Video July 22. Here’s the official synopsis:
“After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man—the most powerful man in the universe.”
The rest of the cast includes Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn), James Purefoy (King Randor), Morena Baccarin (Sorceress), Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Goat Man), Charlotte Riley (Queen Marlena), and Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto. Will you be streaming Masters of the Universe this week?
