Well, it’s been a few hours since we heard news about a live-action update to a classic kid’s tales, so here we go: Fox has reportedly acquired a Tinker Bell movie from Melissa McCarthy and Shawn Levy (A Night at the Museum).

The idea comes from Levy, who will direct, and McCarthy, who will star. Deadline also reports that Nicholas Stoller (Sex Tape, Muppets Most Wanted) will actually write the script. Even though Levy’s name’s been attached to the Mincraft film and, most recently, an updated version of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. Yes, that is two updated and modernized projects on his slate.

However, this one seems like it’ll take priority, since it has a director and a star. I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I’m kind of tired of all of these re-adaptations, especially the ones where it feels like a capitalization on the Disney ones. On the other hand, as a “comedy adventure,” the Tinker Bell project is at least setting itself apart from the dark and gritty trend. I guess I’ll just have to wait for more info before I prematurely judge it.
