Prime Day is finally here. We should really be calling it Prime Week though, considering the summer savings event from Amazon will be stretching from Tuesday, June 23 through Friday, June 26. All week long you’ll be able to save on gadgets ranging from smart TVs to kitchen blenders to electric toothbrushes. One deal that has jumped out is this discount on the Meta Quest 3S.
Normally sold for $350, the 15% savings now takes the 128GB model down to just $297. Want to be able to download even more games? Also available is the 256GB model. This one usually goes for $450 but has dropped to just $382 for a limited time.
Tons of Games
VR has yet to take off as the mainstream way to play games, but it has carved a niche for itself with plenty of inventive titles that make the most of the form. A major highlight is Super Hot. This is a shooter in which time only moves when you move. You can dodge bullets like in the Matrix while simultaneously dishing out your own carnage like John Wick.
Out of the box, you’ll be granted access to three free months of Meta Horizon+. This subscription service includes over 40 VR games you’ll be able to start playing immediately. I’m a big fan of Walkabout Mini Golf. During the height of 2020 lockdown, my friends and I would meet up weekly to hang out on these imaginative courses, putting around and just hanging out. You’d be surprised how close it felt to hanging out with your buds for real, after a little while. It’s the closest I’ve been to experiencing the promise of the metaverse that never really came to fruition.
Headset Specs
The Quest 3S is an excellent entry point into the landscape of virtual reality. It being fully wireless is perhaps the biggest selling point. You do not need to worry about getting all tangled up in cords while your eyes are covered. It’s lightweight and remains comfortable even after extended use.
The headset itself displays in a high-definition 1832 x 1920 pixels for each eye. Battery life is pretty decent. You can get a bit over two hours of use on a single charge. When I was more actively playing on my Quest, I found it helpful to have one of those portable power banks in my back pocket with the USB-C running up my back to the headset. This kept the setup “wireless” in the sense that it at least wasn’t connected to anything off my person and allowed me to play for longer.
