Last week, we saw the poster and some images for Midnight Special, an upcoming thriller from director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) that takes inspiration from Spielberg’s scifi classics, including E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Now we’ve got a trailer that makes us even more excited for the movie.

The film’s title evokes the rock ‘n’ roll variety show that was popular on TV during the Close Encounters era, and the trailer really showcases how this is going to be a 1970s-style chase thriller, but with supernatural/alien elements—and set in the present day.

Plus, check out the killer cast: Joel Edgerton, Adam Driver, Sam Shepard, Kirsten Dunst, and Nichols regular Michael Shannon, who plays the desperate father of a young boy with unusual, eye-zapping powers.
