British design haus PDD has broken out a couple of prototype devices they hope will revolutionize the smelly industry’s two hallmark categories: airline food and girls. The former is addressed by the half-assedly named ‘Platinum,’ which fortunately out-asses its name by being the first airline food tray that actually lets the passenger heat, steam, or chill their food as they want. I don’t expect that airlines will allow we potential terrorists anywhere near a hot steamer, but it’s a nice idea in a Jetson’s sort of way.
The second is the SNIF (Sexy New Intelligent Fragrance, or Snap, Needed Influx of Flava), an electronic scent dispenser that monitors your environment, squirting out perfume relative to the amount of air space you are in. I thought perfume was supposed to mix with the delicate natural scent of a woman’s own skin, creating a heady sublimity that gently whispered compliments to the nose’s ear; but no, apparently perfume is meant to be hosed into the air in regular increments as a sort of romantic nerve gas.
