Minato’s Magic Magnetic Motor

JOEL JOHNSON

Reading time 1 minute

John Dodd pens a story for Japan Magazine about an amazing invention that is almost too good to be true. Listen to this setup: Kohei Minato, backyard tinkerer and professional musician, develops an ultra-efficient magnetic/electric motor in his personal lab; then, rather than selling the rights to a large company, begins to market his invention himself so that he can guarantee the construction of his motors to needy regional manufacturers. So not only is this guy a genius, constructing a motor that consumes just 20 percent of the energy most conventional motors require, but he’s a saint of social justice, too.

It sounds unbelievable, but apparently he’s already gotten a contract to sell 40,000 units of the motors to power convenience store fans and investors are starting to line up in droves. Anyone seen one of these outside of his lab?
