Momitsu—not a space samurai as previously reported—has announced the MS-R5 Media Server, a complementary storage unit for its V800N Network DVD player that can also be used as a generic file server. It supports RAID 0/1/5, uses SATA hot-swappable drives, and has lots of built-in connectivity features like FTP and Wi-Fi access. Even crazier, to me, is the price: 1.6 terabytes for just 3 large. You could build cheaper yourself, but then you wouldn’t get the pretty ‘swap me I’m dead’ LEDs in the brushed aluminum fascia.

Update: Adam points out that the Buffalo Terrastation can be had for less than $2k, albeit with slightly less features.
