eHomeUpgrade has a bit more information about the upcoming Archos AV500 Personal Media Player/DVR/PDA that will debut in both 20GB or 40GB versions. It appears the AV500 will use TrollTech’s Qtopia as the PDA environment (read: Linux, like the Zaurus), support a huge range of formats including most MPEG and WMV variants, and sit in a dock with an integrated TV tuner.
It’s easy to imagine the scenario: at night your AV500 sits in its cradle, waiting (lurking!), slurping up all your favorite TV shows, which you watch on the way to work or in a boring class. Then, because the AV500 is a USB Host device, you meet another AV500 user and connect devices (spicy!) and trade programs over USB, including those you recently captured via a stream from the internet over your optional, plug-in WiFi.
Meanwhile, on a windswept peak overlooking Hollywood, the last IP laywer sheds a solitary tear.
