NBC Might Save Constantine By Moving It To Syfy

File this under "rumors," subdivision "things we desperately hope end up being true": Word is that while Constantine isn't doing well on NBC's Friday night programming block, the network believes in the show enough that it's considering moving it to its little sister network Syfy!

This would be awesome for a lot of reasons, not least of which that Constantine is a lot of fun, and star Matt Ryan does a wonderful job portraying the charismatic, obnoxious magician. But on NBC, the show has been stifled in a lot of ways: it's stuck as a supernatural procedural, and it's got to stay pretty conservative for NBC to air in primetime, which isn't exactly a benefit for a show that wants to be about an asshole saving the world from the most horrible demons and spirits hell can spew out. On Syfy, the show would have the freedom to be darker, more gruesome, and tell a deeper, more complicated story — basically, it would allow the show to be a hell of a lot more like the beloved Hellblazer comic than Constantine the TV show currently is.

Speaking of, this rumor — which comes from Cinelinx, by the way — says that NBC may even rename the show Hellblazer if it moves to Syfy, which is almost too good to be true. In fact, it makes me think this is all probably just wishful thinking and bullshit. But that doesn't make it any less of a good idea! Here's hoping that if NBC isn't really thinking about this, it'll hear these rumors too and start.
