New 0.4 versions of “beggarware” WiFi discovery tools NetStumbler and MiniStumbler were released today. Improvements include support of the Atheros, Atmel, and Intersil Prism2-based cards (the chipset many WiFi PCMCIA and CF cards use), which means there’s a better chance that NetStumbler or MiniStumbler will work with your hardware. MiniStumbler is a great tool for finding out information about WiFi access points in your immediate vicinity, including signal and encryption strength.
