New GBA Fire Emblem for Japan

On the GBA, the tactics game non pareil— the choice amongst those who pepper their language with snooty foreign phrases as well as some who don’t— is Fire Emblem. The embodiment of “easy to learn, difficult to master” gameplay, the long-running series in Japan finally crossed the Pacific last year, much to the chagrin of fans of wussy easy games.

Nintendo has now followed up the recent announcement of a GameCube Fire Emblem title with a teaser for a new GBA title. My sources in Japan tell me that this new title will feature a choice of two advanced classes when you promote a character, along with branching mission choice. There may be some cause for alarm for non-wuss tacticians, as it also appears you’ll be able to replay completed battles to toughen up your characters. Not that a game with levelling up as a viable master strategy can’t be enjoyable, it’s just that Fire Emblem was great without it.

See below for the plot’s premise and a link to the teaser site.

The story focuses on the story of fraternal twins Ephraim and Eirik, members of the royal family of Lunesse, who are separated when their kingdom is invaded by the neighboring Imperial States of Grad. The game starts with the sister, Eirik, who has fled to another neighboring nation, Fleria, and concerns her search for Ephraim, who disappeared completely during the invasion.
