No Matter How Pissed You Get At This Phone, You’ll Never Break It (Probably)

The Samsung Convoy 2 is here for Verizon, its latest ruggedized feature-phone built to withstand the rigors of outdoorsy people, or butter-fingered indoorsy people. Is it bad that I want to try and beat it up?

The Convoy 2 meets military specs standards for shock, low pressure (altitude), low and high temperature, temperature shock, solar radiation, salt fog, humidity, vibration, sand and dust. This means you could climb to the top of a mountain in freezing temperatures, get blasted with a solar flare, fall off, roll down to a foggy beach below, and it would likely still survive (you, on the other hand, probably wouldn’t be so lucky). It’s also Push To Talk capable, so you can talk with you co-workers while you’re bouncing to your death.

It has a few other bells and whistles, sure, but really the only cool thing about this phone is that it’s hard to break. They make ruggedized smartphones, too, for about the same price, so really this is just a phone is for clumsy technophobes. It’ll run you $79.99 on a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. It’s available online now, and will be in stores soon. If you buy it and abuse it, be sure to send us some video.
