It has always seemed odd to me that there are two tiers of ‘business class’ gadgets: the disposable and the workhorse. Wouldn’t a smart buyer want only the latter? When I see suit weights like the Nokia Communicator 9500, the new $1000 phone replacing the old 9200 model, I wonder why everyone wouldn’t want a feature-rich, nigh on indestructible piece of equipment to rely on for years.
Then I remember that the Communicator 9500 doesn’t come in pink, and a veil is lifted. Nokia should consider a pink model, and perhaps replaceable rhinestone faceplates. And if every time the phone rang, an exploding packet was shot into the air, showering me in glitter, well, I’m not saying I’d buy one, but I’m not saying I wouldn’t.
