Nokia has developed an optional RFID reader kit for their 5140 phone, pitching it as a tool to automate certain business functions. For instance, RFID tags could be attached to certain waypoints on a security guard’s route, letting the guard ‘check in’ by touching the phone to the tag. In general, Nokia is selling the platform for users to develop their own systems around, and could find considerable integration on shop floors and other routine-oriented industrial environments.
