The following is the ‘official’ definition of a ‘technosexual’: “A dandyish narcissit[sic] in love with not only himself, but also his urban lifestyle and gadgets.”
Ricky Montalvo is an self-conscious nerd on a mission: to make sure that no one ever calls him a nerd again. He’s coined the term ‘technosexual’ to describe men that like to both dress fancy and lust after (and maybe even use) gadgetry and electronics, but don’t want to be associated with the ‘negative’ stereotype that words like ‘geek’ might imply. Along with his crusade against bad taste and hurtful words is (surprise!) a website, technosexual.org, where men can get together and talk about what color iPod mini goes best with their bruised egos.
Even more irritating is the way he’s ripped off the term ‘technosexual’ (he’s riffing on ‘metrosexual,’ in case this is your first time in this god-forsaken country) from the fun perverts who use it to define their desire to fuck machines.
Look, I like the way women’s underwear feels on my skin as much as the next guy, but if you need a whole new term to describe the fact that you like day spas and graphics cards, they already have a name for you: asshole.
