HardOCP has the first benchmarks of Nvidia’s NV40-based video cards, the GeForce 6800Ultra. The two-slot, two-Molex, two-DVI beast is a reference unit, but should provide benchmark numbers similar to the production models. HardOCP has a somewhat confusing review, applauding the improvements on one page but poo-pooing them on another, but the long and the short of it is that the 6800Ultra series doesn’t decimate ATI’s flagship 9800XT card, but does match or better it in most cases. The 6800Ultra does prove to be a marked improvement over its predecessor, the GeForceFX 5950Ultra. The GeForce 6 series of cards should be available soon, priced between $299 and $499, depending on clock speeds.
